are you a Buffalo or Cow-ard?
When a storm rolls over the plains, animals sense the shift long before we do. As dark clouds gather and thunder rumbles, two creatures in particular – the buffalo and the cow – respond in drastically different ways. This response is where an important lesson about facing life’s challenges begins.
The Buffalo’s Charge into the Storm
Buffalo, with their incredible instincts, turn and face the storm head-on. Rather than fleeing, they charge directly into it, knowing that by doing so, they will get through it faster. As they press forward into the heart of the storm, they endure its intensity, but only briefly. Soon, they emerge on the other side, where the skies are clearer and the air is calmer.
The Cow’s Flight from the Storm
In contrast, cows run away from the storm, trying to avoid the discomfort. But in doing so, they unwittingly prolong their exposure, staying under the storm’s harsh rain and wind for far longer. By running, they actually suffer more, as the storm eventually catches up and lingers over them. This gives a whole different meaning to the term - COWARD.
How do you face the Storms of Life?
We often face our own storms – challenges, fears, and difficult situations – and much like these animals, we have two choices. We can either run away, avoiding the discomfort, or we can turn and face it head-on. Those who run often find that, much like the cows, their struggles follow them, leading to ongoing stress and suffering. Avoiding challenges often prolongs the difficulty, leaving us feeling stuck and drained.
Those who face their storms, however, make a conscious choice to endure the discomfort for a shorter, more intense time. By taking on the challenge directly, they come out the other side stronger, wiser, and with a clearer path forward. Facing life’s storms doesn’t just build resilience; it brings a sense of peace, fulfillment, and empowerment that only comes from overcoming hardship. It’s easier in our minds to hide, to run, to fight it; but in the long run it exacerbates the pain and suffering.
Choosing to Be the Buffalo
Learning to face our challenges head-on doesn’t mean we won’t experience fear, doubt, or discomfort – but it does mean we’re choosing growth over avoidance, strength over stagnation. Facing the storm helps us move through challenges quicker and with greater inner peace, as we no longer carry the weight of unresolved fears or lingering problems.
