Uncovering the Golden Buddha.
Story time. This one’s a personal favorite because of the powerful analogy it holds.
We all have a "Golden Buddha" within us—something precious that’s been hidden, masked, or covered up over time. Reflecting on our past helps us understand who we are today, and it’s through uncovering our authentic selves that we can truly thrive in the future.
Sometimes, we just need someone to help us uncover what's beneath the surface.
In Bangkok, there stands an extraordinary statue of the Buddha—9 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 5.5 tons, and made entirely of gold. Its value today is estimated at around 250 million dollars.
Believed to have been created around 1403, this statue was a revered symbol for Buddhists for centuries. However, in 1757, when the Burmese Army invaded Thailand, the monks who guarded the statue faced impending destruction. In a desperate effort to protect their sacred treasure, they covered the Golden Buddha with plaster and inlaid it with bits of colored glass, making it appear to be a simple, unremarkable statue. Sadly, the monks were all killed during the invasion, but their secret remained safe—the Golden Buddha went unnoticed.
Fast forward to 1957, when a monastery in Thailand was being relocated. As monks worked to move the large, seemingly ordinary clay Buddha, one monk noticed a crack in its surface. Upon closer inspection, he saw a golden glow shining through the crack.
Curious, the monks began chipping away the clay until they uncovered the hidden treasure beneath—the statue was made of solid gold.
Just like the Golden Buddha, there’s something incredible within you, waiting to be uncovered and shared. It might feel tough to believe, especially if you’re feeling down or stuck, but the journey is worth it. Taking the time to reflect, rewire, and reawaken will lead you back to that hidden greatness.
